科目について

Students will learn exciting new things about current news. Past topics have included The floating libraries of Bangladesh, The Vertical Gardens of Singapore, The Freitag Brothers and Their Innovative Bags, Doctors Without Borders, Robot Doctors, Body Burden Testing, The Reasons Behind the Increase in Cosmetic Surgery in Asia, Japan's Aging Population etc.

受講前に必要とされる知識及び技能・態度

Students should be at a beginner level of English. The class is a listening class so the students are expected to listen to English for the entire class. There will be some reading and some simple conversation as well. This class is entirely centred around pair work and active participation.

科目の評価について

Students will have a midterm exam worth 25% of their final grade and a final exam worth 25% of their final grade. The remaining 50% is based on class participation: attendance, bringing the required materials, doing the assigned homework, participating in class, not sleeping, not playing games on their phone, good fashion/style, etc.

指定教科書他

All materials come from news sources, and are fresh and up to date, hence the lectures differ from term to term and year to year. There is no text. Most classes will be based on CNN news reports.
